Muschi Alti Ottonelli

Muschi Alti “Ottonelli” Montecucco Rosso DOC is Tuscany with a slightly wilder, more authentic edge—grown on the hills around Campagnatico in Montecucco (near Monte Amiata), where sandy, stony soils help deliver a lovely, fresh mineral lift.

This is a seriously drinkable red made from Sangiovese (60%) and Alicante (40%): Sangiovese brings that classic Tuscan drive and cherry fruit, while Alicante adds darker berries, juiciness and roundness. The grapes are hand-harvested, then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel to preserve pure fruit and freshness, followed by a short period of bottle ageing so everything settles beautifully—without turning oaky or heavy.

In the glass it’s an intense ruby red, with aromas of dark berries and a subtle, elegant spice note. The palate is direct yet nuanced: juicy fruit, great energy, and a dry, savoury finish with tannins that are present—but never harsh.

Food pairing: brilliant with charcuterie and classic Tuscan starters (think crostini), pasta dishes like tortelli maremmani, panzanella, “all’uccelletto” beans, roasts and aged cheeses. Serve around 17–18°C.

Tip: a short decant (10–20 minutes) makes it even more open and aromatic.
