A Harmonious and Characterful Pinotage from Tulbagh

Rijks Touch Pinotage is a full-bodied red wine with a rich, fruit-driven profile. The wine boasts intense aromas of ripe blackberries and plums, elegantly spiced with notes of black pepper and a hint of cocoa. The palate is full and well-balanced, offering a refined structure with silky tannins, lively acidity, and deep, dark fruit nuances.

Vineyard & Harvest

The grapes come from low-yielding, well-drained shale and schist soils, contributing to an intense flavor profile. The vines are west-northwest facing for optimal sun exposure, ensuring slow ripening and concentrated flavors. The grapes are hand-harvested at night to preserve their freshness and aromas.

Vinification

After harvest, the grapes undergo a gentle 48-hour cold maceration to extract color and fruit character. During fermentation, the juice is pumped over the skins three times a day for optimal extraction. Once fermentation is complete, the skins are gently pressed before the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in oak barrels. The wine is matured for 20 months in French oak barrels (20% second-fill, 40% third-fill, 40% fourth-fill), adding complexity and finesse.
